What is Chinese Labor Day (劳动节 Láodòngjié) and how we celebrate it?

What is Chinese Labor Day?

International Workers’ Day, also called Labor Day , is an international holiday that is generally celebrated on May 1st each year in over 80 countries worldwide. It celebrates the achievements of the workers of the world.

Since this holiday come into China, it also be called May Firsy or May Day. We also name it “Golden Week”, because we have a 5 days holiday.

 

How we celebrate Labor Day?

However, as time goes by, the holiday in China is no longer limited to ensuring workers’ rights as defined in Westerncountries.

Today Labor Day in China is a sort of a cheerful family holiday. During these three days of holidays, the Chinese go to the country, meet friends. Many people visit theaters and exhibitions. The streets of the Chinese cities hold demonstrations and performances.
